These are oils obtained by the fruit of olive tree, under condition which doesn’t alter oil, and which didn’t undertake any treatment different from washing, from decantation, centrifugation and filtration, excluding the oils obtained through solvents or with adjuvants having a chemical or biochemical action or with re-esterification processes and any mixture with other oils, and whose free acidity, expressed as oleic acid, is at most 0.8 g per 100 g and having the other characteristics conforming to those provided for this category. OLIVE OIL COMPOSED BY REFINED OLIVE OILS AND VIRGIN OLIVE OILS (sales description)
Description: oil exclusively containing olive oils which undertook a refining process and oils obtained directly from olives.
Free acidity expressed in oleic acid can’t exceed 1,0 g per 100 g and the other characteristics are conform to those provided for this category . Source: Rules CE 1531/01
QUALITY OF VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
These virgin olive oils are subject to following classification and denomination:
Extra virgin olive oil
Virgin olive oil whose free acidity expressed by oleic acid, reaches max 0,8 g per 100 g and has got all characteristics conform to those required for this category.
Logoluso mill only produces this typology of oil.
Virgin olive oil
Virgin olive oil whose free acidity expressed by oleic acid, reaches max 2 g per 100 g and has got all characteristics conform to those required for this category
Lampante olive oil
Virgin olive oil whose free acidity expressed by oleic acid, is higher than 2 g per 100 g and has got all characteristics conform to those required for this category
Virgin oil and extra virgin oil are destined to consumption and can be traded safely
Lampante oil can be destined to consumption only after refining
This decree has introduced for mills the obligation to keep a registry with production, movements and processing of extra virgin olive oil and virgin olive oil.
This rule which has introduced for mills the obligation to keep registers for ingoing and outgoing of each category of olive oil and pomace oil, was converted into DM n 16059 from December 23rd 2013; besides to give general direction for conformity control of traded olive oils, according to the art 7 bis of the same rule, it provides that the ingoing and outgoing registers are run electronically within the services of the National Agricultural Informative System (SIAN).
Comma 2 of this decree also introduces the obligation for growers to update farm data before the trading of olives, giving all information on number of plants and, if known, the grown variety, besides other information useful for the product traceability.
